Our Junior Cadets range from 8 - 11 years, after which they make the decision whether to progress into Blue Jacket Cadets or Marine Cadets. Our Juniors get involved in many different activities from learning all about the Royal Navy and Nautical subjects to fun educational visits. The main focus is always enjoyment however we also teach our Junior Cadets important lessons that they will take with them in life and use outside of cadets such as team work, discipline and ambition. On top of this our Junior Cadets are given opportunities to learn water sports and adventurous activities.

Training Afloat

Our junior cadets are given the opportunity to learn a variety of boating. We currently offer training on the following disciplines:


  • Paddlesports (Kayaking/Canoeing)

  • Powerboating

  • Rowing

  • Sailing


Which provide the cadets with a level of training to gain them nationally recognised qualifications.

Colour Stepping Stones & Advancement

Our Junior Cadets progress by achieving coloured stepping stone badges aswell as completing advancement subjects. By doing this they will become eligable for promotion to their next rank.

Alongside this our Juniors are given the opportunity achieve their coloured Stepping stones as below:


  • Green - Land & Field Based

  • Blue - Waterbourne and The Navy

  • Red - Unit Activities

  • Yellow - Community


Junior Cadets are issued with a brassard that is worn on their arm to display their badges.

Adventurous Activities


Our Junior Cadets are given the opportunity to get involved in a variety of different Adventurous Activities.

  • Team Building

  • Orienteering

  • Camp Craft

  • Expedition Training

  • Various Sports
